The inspiration for this series stems from our family’s photo album from the '80s, which portrays scenes of carefree youth that would lay the foundations for a carefree adulthood. This seems to come into sharp contrast with the mad, mad reality we are experiencing, a reality where individualism and capitalism have led to repeated atrocities, making us witnesses of a social slumber that seems to lead to an apathetic state towards issues that are far away from our comfort zone.

This almost-annual catastrophic phenomenon led to a re-evaluation of the meaning of hope. How can we still hope whilst witnessing our world being turned into ashes? Repeatedly?

If we do hope, what are we hoping for?

How can we obtain a truthful understanding of the real causes of all the destructive events that we witness today? Would this affect our thoughts, our attitudes, our actions?

The work is developed digitally as a way to reflect social media’s impact on our perception of reality, our relationships, and the world.

Printed with premium methods on award-winning, fine art paper with a 100-year guarantee, the medium metaphorically suggests that this madness is guaranteed to last in time.

I am not saying—forever—because, I guess, I hope it won’t.
